Our Approach

Everyone is unique with different strengths and weaknesses, as well as different requirements and goals. We welcome clients from all backgrounds and abilities and offer personalised training programmes tailored to suit you.

We never provide generic plans. We offer exceptional value from our client-centred approach and personalised programmes, which we monitor and adapt to enhance your progress and to reflect any changes in your needs and goals. 

Craven Complete personal training and coaching packages can either be stand-alone or be a bolt-on/continuation to your physiotherapy and rehabilitation plan. They aim to unite all the aspects of a healthy lifestyle supporting our ‘life-nutrition-training’ ethos. We also combine our personal training and sports coaching models so that they are in effect, delivered in the same way.

Triathlon and its individual components (swimming, cycling and running) are our main sport however, we can still help individuals from other sports and activities. Whilst we may have limited knowledge and ability to specifically coach the technical elements, we are willing to learn about the specific requirements by working with other coaches, so that we can fully support each other. Effectively you will have a team of coaches working together for your benefit.

This approach helps us strengthen our ‘technique – endurance – performance’ model by which good technique promotes efficient ability to be able to sustain activity from which performance can be trained and achieved. Conversely, poor technique promotes inefficient energy consumption (including fatigue) which makes the sustained activity more difficult and from which good performance is less likely and injury risk is increased.

In addition to the technical and endurance-based activities, a strength and conditioning component should always be included with a plan or programme. As well as contributing to injury prevention and form, performance is strongly enhanced. This should not run alongside a programme but actually be incorporated into its structure.

There are also several areas that assist in the effectiveness of a successful programme. These include nutrition, complete event/race preparation, equipment selection and psychology among them. A Craven complete programme is indeed complete as we cover any area that comes up; and if we can’t help, we will find a man (or woman) that can.

What’s involved and how to get started

Initial consultation (free and no obligation)

Questionnaire followed by a discussion (face to face or phone/skype for distance athletes). There may also be the need to complete an activity/food diary along with obtaining some physical data. This is so that we can ascertain who you are, where you are right now as to where you want to be; from which strengths and weaknesses can be developed.

We create your unique tailored programme

Your plan or programme (long-medium-short term) can be discussed with us offering a range of options to suit you, your budget and personal circumstances. Our range is rather like a spectrum of products that you can, through your journey, move back and forth along, depending on what suits you best at that time.

Your programme begins with our guidance & support

We provide an initial plan/regime to follow; which depending on the package purchased provides varying degrees of actual physical support and monitoring.

What’s included:

  • A plan that is broken down with long, medium and short-term goals so that these will guide you along the path and make sure you are on target. This plan can be as detailed as you require from being prescriptive to generalised.
  • Depending on which package you opt to follow; varied numbers of ‘face-to-face’ contact sessions and phone/email support sessions.
  • Support through contact and feedback – we can use various platforms ranging from simply typed training logs to online products such as training peaks/exhale/Polar/Garmin. feedback like this allows us to monitor progress.
  • Discount on workshops and any additional face to face sessions you may require. Face to face may mean sitting around a table, however, may also include actual pool/cycle or run coaching; which maybe 1-2-1 and/or group. Gym sessions may also be included.
  • Nutritional support and guidance
  • Advice and guidance on additional topics such as race prep, tapering and post-activity recovery.
